As many of you may know, Kasey and I spent a good part of 2001 living aboard our 1994 Hunter 30T sailboat - aka Schatzi - before eventually settling down and becoming responsible citizens and parents. In those days aboard Schatzi, we spent the late majority of our time in a region of the Bahamas known as The Abacos. The Abacos consist mostly of one major island and a number of "out-islands" ranging from uninhabited to very historical settlements dating back to the 1700's. A lot of history and an area that is considered one of the major sailing centers of the planet.
During these times we found a place called Treasure Cay which although is more of a planned resort area is not a tourist destination at all and is pretty lowly populated. The Treasure Cay beach is rated one of the top ten in the world. I am guessing that has to do with the three miles of white sand, crystal clear water, and nearly zero human population. On any give day you have a hundred (or more) yards in either direction completely to yourself.
On this return visit to Treasure Cay we far more landlubbers than the cruising types we were back in 2001. We rented a villa on the beach and a golf cart for local transportation. There's only one main street and that only goes so far in either direction. Some folks might think this would be a boring vacation with not much to do. Well I can tell you that it certainly is not Disneyland. But being that the entertainment is limited to lazing on one of the most stunningly beautiful beaches on Earth OR going tooling around in four-seater golf cart with some sweet live Bob Marley on the portable iPod player, it really does force an overachiever like me to shut up and relax. And so it did.
So check out the photo show for yourself, and let me know if you'd like more information about this amazing vacation spot. ~R
